Cliffhanger

Weekend update: I picked up a few things, not the least of which is the taped third season of Battlestar Galactica, as well as my DVDs of the first two seasons. I’m going to start over from the beginning. This leads me to the other significant acquisition: a 25” TV, a hand-me-down from my brother. No more 13” for Timmay. Finally, finally I have the creature comforts that the average person has. Who knew 25” would feel like luxury? (that’s what she said… eww)

Seriously, everybody has at least that big of a screen. So what do I do with the old 13” I’ve been relying on for the past three years?

Keep it. I got a Pitbull, now!

I did manage to stop by the captain’s quarters. All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t help with Logic, and then the captain stepped in with his superior powers of observation (he is Captain Obvious, after all) and finally found out the reason why sound wasn’t coming out. As I suspected, it was an aggravatingly simple oversight. A combination of two oversights, actually. Anyway, all it took was for someone to see it in person, because getting help over the phone was a frustrating waste of time.

However, there is a baffling problem my computer seems to be having with sampler file allocation and administrative rights that basically prevents me from adding the giga fonts for conversion. Conversion into Logic, because the ultimate reason Giga Studio won’t install on my Mac is because it can’t. Period. Hey, thanks, Tascam! Thanks for including software for my computer and giving me disinformation! Yay! Further humiliation!

As for Cubase, there’s no point. Just no point at all. I only wanted to get it running because it’s there. It’s obsolete, since I have Logic Pro 7, but I figured I have it so I might as well use it. Nope, don’t care anymore. I just want to access my thousands of dollars worth of giga fonts. Is that too much to ask? Yes, it is.

I should be building up my “home studio” resources. But when you’re completely isolated, all you can get over the phone is, “I’d really have to be there in person to be able to help you get it working right.”

Heh heh. That’s what she said.

…What?! What did I just say?! Again?!

I’m getting really pissed off here. Nothing seems to want to work. And I don’t have the know-how to figure anything out. This results in me crawling back under the covers and reading Calvin and Hobbes until I fall asleep.

2007… you’re in a lot of trouble.

But the May sweeps continue to rise, as cameos abound and the set design is upgraded and renovated. Will our hero finally begin making something of his Master’s degree? Probably not. But stay tuned!

In two weeks, Starbuck will be here. We will not only have a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon in preparation for the new movie, but we will most certainly rendezvous with The Reverend for some long-awaited antics and misadventures. Excitement is almost palpable. The May sweeps suspense is building to a big finale, as the prospect of switching jobs threatens to screw over some plans while simultaneously opening the door for newer, potentially better ones. The worst case scenario is if I end up getting a

You do know that you're still posting on EDT, right? Are you just being complicated?

I'm glad to hear that you're starting to get the problems in your Logic worked out. I was beginning to think that we were going to have a session fervent prayer and the laying-on of hands.

Heheh.

You would like that, wouldn't you?

Oh yeah. Use the 13" tv for film scoring projects. That way your "entertainment space" is separate from your "work space". I realise it's a small apartment but it makes a huge psychological difference.

That's how I roll.

Just make sure to bring the
'top back on Game Weekend. I have faith that we can solve the permissions issue in short order.

Oh, and I dropped the obvious, as it had a negative connotation (that I was a jerk) It's just The Captain now (carrying with it the connotation that I'm a self-important ass... which is much closer to the mark).
