Still Holding On

Wow, so now I'm posting once bi-monthly.  What happened?  Facebook won.  I just don't make the time to write more than a few sentences at a time, and that's what Facebook is for, isn't it?

Well, blogging one's personal life is officially antiquated.  I wouldn't go so far as to say obsolete, because that would imply that Facebook and Twitter are somehow superior (or at least adequate) in any way.  But not many people I know still journal like this.  Well, to be fair, neither do I... not anymore.

That's okay.  The blog doesn't have to be all-purpose.  I can simply filter its uses into discussing ideas rather than mundane details.  It's not like I need to blog because my life is frequently being turned upside-down with  exciting new developments and plot twists.  I go to work, I wonder where the time went.  The end, mostly.

But let me mention a few points for the record, things that I've (mostly) already covered on Facebook:

I'm growing pumpkins at my girlfriend's house.  Rather than going for quantity, I'm engineering my patches for quality.  I planted "giant" pumpkin seeds, and I'm using techniques to make that happen, but it's a gamble.  I could end up with nothing at all.  But this year is an experiment, a learning exercise.  I'm still going to splurge on pumpkins (for carving) from markets like I did last year.  Last year, I carved a total of twelve Jack-o'-lanterns and posted the photos to Facebook.  At least, I think it was twelve.  It's not worth fact-checking right now.

I finally got a "new" car.  Unfortunately, the interior reeks of mold.  I didn't notice when I test-drove it, but now it's unbearable. I'm fiercely allergic, so until I get the mold taken care of, I'm still borrowing my girlfriend's car.  Ugh.

I'm looking for a new job.  I need daytime hours and better pay.  Once I get that squared away, then I'll take on more piano students and schedule them for Saturday morning.  That leaves Sunday for composing "serious" projects that I can actually sell online.  I would be working seven days a week under this new plan, but I'm getting ahead of myself.  First, I need a new job.  A day job.  Need.  I don't use the word lightly.

It seems like there should be more to report, but there isn't.

Money is tight, and time is even more scarce.  What else is new?

Who actually reads this blog, anyway?

Maybe, from now on, I'll cut back on Facebook interactions (which usually end in aggravation or political resentment anyway) and put more thought into compartmentalizing subjects into distinct (and succinct) blog posts.  Honestly, the only reason I don't is because I know most people don't read my blog even when I post a link to it ON Facebook.  I guess the extra click is just one too many steps to ask of someone.  And so, Facebook wins again.  And again and again.  So I'm still trying to figure out how blogger fits into the scheme of things.  My blog must adapt to survive, but I haven't figured it out quite yet.

But I'm still here, for now.
