The Destruction of Kansas City
I met Herr Vogler and the mythical pikey for lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. I can finally attest that the pikey does indeed exist. But this was too much for the world to handle. All of us at the same table, rather than separated by blogspace? The only thing missing was the fourth horseman, the illustrious Captain. Now that I know the pikey better, this blog’s comments are in even greater danger of escalation. If that’s possible.
As I walked up to the door where they stood waiting, the earth gave a great and terrible tremble, and the sky became a dark yellow. The wind died and all was still, yet a mighty thunderclap echoed across the valleys and hills as we shook hands. The heavens opened up and seven trumpets sounded, and I saw the Beast make war on the rider of the white horse and his army.
We chilled for three hours, talking about everything from master classes to the upcoming Terminator Salvation trilogy. Talking for three hours… that’s pretty much all we grown-ups can handle anymore. We had some good ones, though. Even an honest-to-goodness spit take. It’s true. Those things really do happen in real life.
We had to leave when a chasm opened up and swallowed Best Buy whole. We barely escaped with our lives, speeding just ahead of the shockwave that spread out across the city. David Arnold’s score was mixed really loudly, too. I can’t imagine what would have happened had the Captain been there as well. Too much presence… we upset the delicate balance of the world… and I can still hear Kefka’s laughter.

I was explaining to the pikey the possibilities of encountering my former professors if and when I visit BG. I dryly said, "I like to burn as many bridges as possible."
Then I took a sip of beer as Herr Vogler responded, "You don't burn bridges, you burn the rivers under the bridges!"
That was the spit take. You had to be there.

You know, after my impromptu beer shower, I couldn't help but think all I needed was a little splash of cheap perfume and a lipstick mark on my collar and not even an act of God would have convinced my wife that we weren't really out fucking around at a titty-bar all afternoon.

I'll remember that next time. Because hopefully next time, we'll hang out in the evening, when your wives really will suspect me of being a bad influence.

I made that sound like you have multiple wives.

I do believe I've created a monster.
Still I'm glad we got away from Best Buy before it was ingurgitated entirely by the chasm.
I think, also, that I saw Hilda waving goodbye with her three remaining arms; accepting her fate; staying with the Grail even unto death. Maybe.

Dear God, a Hilda reference in the wild.
What the blue blazes is going on?!

So, Tim, what did you do to 'cause the best Buy to collapse? Again.
Did you pick up a copy of National Lampoon's Dorm Daze on Blu-Ray, with intent to purchase? And I can just imagine then an ancient knight of the Crusades, clad in the ubiquitous blue polo, poked his head around the corner of the "comedy" section and quppied "You chose poorly."
Again.
That's when it all went to shit, wasn't it?
Monday, January 14, 2008 11:47:00 AM
And the knight's name was... Hilda?
See, it just doesn't work. Stop referencing shit that even I cannot possibly begin to understand.
Hilda and her situation are best left buried within this blogs comments of eras past.

The way is shut.

This time it was my fault.
I picked up the latest Arcade Fire album and then decided not to buy it. That's when David Arnold's score kicked in and I knew we were in trouble.
Interestingly it was more like his Hot Fuzz score than any of his 007 efforts.

I think we're all going to be shocked when we find that the comments in your blog are the monster(s) in Cloverfield.

We're all online at the same time. That is baaaad news.

I think it should not be forgotten that the real point is that we all had a good time.
Especially when Tim had his aforementioned beer spit-take with the Pikey in its path.

Bad news, indeed.

Good times are too few and too far between. Let's do it again as soon as I get paid. As soon as they rebuild Kansas City.
Monday, January 14, 2008 1:51:00 PM
Both of those things could be awhile in coming.
Monday, January 14, 2008 2:02:00 PM
I'll drink to that.
Shall we say... Buffalo Wild Wings?
Monday, January 14, 2008 2:49:00 PM
Yeah. And Kefka and his Light of Judgment can suck it, too.
