The First Wave

Z-Day +1. It has been just under 24 hours since Patient Zero ran around infecting the first wave of zombies, and already the town of St. Charles is a deathtrap. Though authorities seem unprepared and uninformed, I suspect that this has not yet spread beyond the St. Louis area. Perhaps this has even been quarantined, albeit kept hush-hush by the powers that be and most likely thought to have been enforced for other reasons than the truth: the living dead are among us, and they are expanding their ranks with terrible efficiency.

Oh, you think I’m crazy, don’t you. You think this is a prank? Well, I give it another 24 hours before a whole new generation of zombies is fully active. We’re talking exponential growth here, people. Wake up. I’ve been saying for months now that a zombie apocalypse would happen, and you didn’t believe me. I have no desire to rub it in and say, “I told you so,” because it’s hardly a winning scenario for me. But the fact that I was ready for it, the fact that I instantaneously jumped into survival mode… it will probably save me. Will it save you?

Please, please do what you can to save yourselves. DON’T go around trying to save a huge group of people and hole up in a shopping mall or some crap, because you can’t trust the logic of everyone under pressure, and you can’t keep your eye on every irrational 12-year-old girl and Bible-thumping farmer you recruit. Remember, you can’t save them all, and everyone you meet—even the most rational, healthy, leadership-capable human beings—is a potential zombie. Keep an eye out for the warning signs. It’s early. Most places you go, you don’t even see zombies yet. Take the initiative, be well prepared and take an hour or two to sit down in a family meeting or whatever and plan for every contingency.

Good luck out there, and remember: only aim for the head.

Only aim for the head

Wise advice, for even if they aren't yet amongst the living dead, your target will be once they bleed out from your errant gut shot or are fallen upon by insatiable hordes because you unwisely kneecapped them.

Why use two bullets for the job of one? Put some lead in that noodle.
