Thesis Fever

Not much new here. Just working on my thesis and getting behind in my classes. The usual. No, actually, I'm on top of my crap, It just never ends.

Thesis fever is setting in. This friday there are no classes, so I don't have to teach or go to my lesson. However, I had a pre-emptive make-up lesson this morning. So Friday and Saturday I hope to spend all day on my thesis. It's coming along. I can't wait to have it done so I can begin the endless cycles of editing and revising until I graduate. Yay.

I have sightsinging exams to give today and tomorrow, and the Forum II to go to in Toledo tonight. Honestly, I think having the second composers' forum recital in the Manor House in Toledo is a terrible, terrible idea in the first place. I'm also a little resentful that my first Tuesday evening without the New Music Ensemble is being spent in Toledo instead of the dojo.

Did I mention I hate Toledo?

Time marches forward, and more work seems to get done somehow. Still more work piles on, and more conversations are spent over coffee in the basement lounge. More days pass, and more notes are written. Another day closer to dying, another day closer to living.

I was talking to a friend yesterday about how time slips away, and we spend it all working. When we both realized it was suddenly November, and the year was almost half over, we were awestruck. Not necessarily in a good way, either. Looking back on the amount of fun we had, I realized there should have been room for more. She commented on what a hard worker I am, and somehow I found that very flattering. Maybe because a few minutes before talking to her I was agitated over the opposite view. Funny how disarming a conversation with a friend can be.

But I have accepted my fate this weekend: life as a hermit for the sake of my thesis. I want the preliminary work done, so I can be more free with my time. Once the actual composition is done, the rest will be a matter of weekly sacrifices to appease the comp lesson gods. I have done a lot of work, and it's nice to be credited.

Ah memories. I remember the days of working diligently on my thesis. Those were just about the most intense 17 days of my life.

Actually they were only intense because I threw out 2 months worth of work because it was garbage. I'm happier with the end result, but it's still not what I would like it to be.

Yeah, if I spent 17 days straight on it, I'd be done. But I don't want to do that over Christmas like you did. I want to spend my Christmas break sketching the opera.

Hey, do you like the new format? I got tired of confusing my blog with yours.

Actually I didn't work on it at Christmas. I threw it all out on New Year's Eve and decided to start fresh.

Yeah I do like the format. Makes me hungry for butternut squash and pumpkin pie. I can understand how confusing it would've been reading my blog and thinking, "I'm not this brilliant! Oh wait, it's Fowler". I keeeeeeed.

Speaking of being credited, I still haven't received an actual working copy of your sister's movie.

But I always like to see how my work is being used for the forces of evil.

Believe me, my sister works only for evil. I'll see if I can get you a DVD that works...
