Death of a Saturn
All things considered, September has been a pretty horrible month. I've had a rough time of it, and I'm hoping October is as pleasant as I've been hyping it up to be.
One of many sour patches in September has been my car situation. This whole spring and summer has been a ridiculous saga of bad luck and worse timing, as far as my car is concerned. The total cost of the myriad repairs is approximately what I could have spent on a new laptop, Logic 9 update, and Goliath package from Sounds Online. Considering how each and every month has brought new challenges keeping me treading water, it makes the following quote from The Big Lebowski all the more appropriate:
"Well, they finally did it. They killed my fucking car."
At 2340 Central Time on Monday, I was sitting at a stoplight on the outer road. It was my night off of work, I had just bought groceries, and the very last stoplight of my journey home had ensnared me, delaying my relaxation. I sat at the stoplight, waiting. The Dodge Ram (aka Oxymoron) suddenly and without warning backed into me; the driver didn't see me behind him and decided to back up so he could enter the parking lot of the adjacent Shell station. Being a pickup truck, its bumper was tall enough to slide above mine, crushing the hood with surprising ease. When I saw him backing into me, I didn't even have time to throw my car into reverse to try to avoid it. Crunch. Totally his fault, and his insurance is paying for everything.
But they aren't in any particular hurry to do so. It wasn't until Thursday night that I had a rental car squared away so that I could go to work again. That's okay; the bosses have been badgering me about taking my 100+ paid-time-off hours I'd saved up. Of course, being grounded at my apartment for three nights in a row felt very much unlike a nice, extended weekend. Good thing I bought groceries.
I'm still waiting to get in touch with the appraiser, so my car is still sitting in a heap at the apartment. Can I even repair it? I don't know much yet, but it's safe to say that this whole week has been a bag of dicks.
I hope it gets taken care of soon, because I don't like this rental car... and I have a hunch that the headache that is the insurance company is not actually over.
"My other car is the Batmobile."
