The Australian Job
I got some mail regarding the next phase of my internship paperwork. I hate paperwork. My application has moved on to another office, and apparently it's a sure thing now. It's just a matter of when and where, I guess. I mean, just because I applied for the October Start in Sydney doesn't mean I won't end up in Melbourne in November. Brisbane is the other possibility.
Now I'm wondering about where to be before and after that. I have to be moved out of here by August, which leaves a large window of bum-itude before October. Now, if I were to return to the States for the holidays, that means I'd have to find an apartment somewhere (but where?) in January. Nobody has apartments available in January. And since I don't particularly want to live with my parents for the second half of the summer anyway, I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to just go ahead and get an apartment in Kansas City starting in August. I just wouldn't be getting my money's worth for a few months... this is a dilemma I'd like to figure out, but it's yet another thing I have to procrastinate thinking about until after this semester is over.
There's still the question of what I'm going to do with myself after the internship. Kansas City? What am I going to do there? Sell orchestra tickets with Brad? No, thanks. I hate phones. There's always the off chance I'll find a niche in Australia after my internship is done. People have a way of going to Sydney and staying there for a decade longer than they intended.

First: I would also like to express my great envy over the Australian Job.
Second: You might be surprised at the availability/special offers on apartments in January.

There's no need for envy. It's an unpaid internship.
And yes, someone pointed out to me that in a real town like Kansas City, apartments open up all the time. I'm used to August-to-August leases.

I do have this unnatural affinity for Australia... it's almost an obsession, really. I have the Southern Cross draped over my front door.
