Go Figure

Please disregard the optimism and vague declarations of the blog post "The Way Forward." Almost as soon as I began pursuing these life-affirming goals, things changed. Things shifted, circumstances flipped upside-down, and I was plunged into a struggle to make a Plan B.

Not trying to be vague, but the details are too tedious to explain. Basically, unemployment benefits were cut short by several months and the circumstances surrounding our business that the pandemic put on ice are so different now that it would mean I do the job of three people just to keep it going. The pandemic is "over," as far as Texas is concerned, but it's not as simple as just picking up where we left off in March 2020. Our employees are gone. The clientele has changed. And my skills are rusty. It's a massive, uphill battle to get it back, and I simply can't do the work-from-home admin and correspondence work with my wild kids poking me in the brain every two seconds.

I can outsource myself to other local entertainers who need assistance for gigs, but that means taking only a small percentage, and not working nearly as often anyway.

I'm being confusingly vague but if you knew the business it wouldn't be. What I've said so far is actually crystal clear, but I'm tired and apathetic and don't actually care if you understand. The bottom line is that the shit hit the fan, and the fan is in a different room now anyway.

I've been so swamped with scrambling for a new angle that I haven't been able to blog. Again. Let's just accept that I will probably not make weekly posts ever again.

But it kills me that the momentum I was building with reconnecting with old friends was stopped dead in its tracks. One or two people took the bait, but I didn't even reach out to a fourth of the people I'd hoped to.

I want to articulate these thoughts, goals, projects, and whatnot. But I don't have the time and I hear laughing and splashing on the other side of the wall, so I need to go check on what those boys are up to now.

This does not even count as a blog post. No, my blog is a student who fell asleep in class, and this is just me walking by and whacking his desk with a ruler to wake him up.

More to come? Probably?

This summer has sucked. Because of these circumstances, I had to cancel my July trip to Missouri. I missed out on a lot
