Road of Discovery

I’m supposed to be sleeping. My work week starts late tonight, so this is midnight for me, but my sleep schedule got messed up (just as it does every week these days). I was awake for about thirty hours after my last night of work, Sunday night/Monday morning. I crashed and happened to fall into a sleep schedule that aligns with yours: I have been waking up at 6:30 AM. That’s not right.

So today I slept a little later, but my body is still on a day schedule. I have discovered lately that by not sleeping, I have all this extra time on my hands! It’s amazing…

Oh man, tonight is gonna suck. And tomorrow is gonna be worse, because I never get to sleep more than a couple hours on Friday anyway. Bah.

Anyway, I decided to go back to Scooter’s. I was there yesterday for a change of pace, and I miss going. So I’m here two days in a row. To get here, I have to take a windy road along Brushy Creek, where there’s a hiking trail and everything. Listening to Final Fantasy VIII on a sunny spring day while taking the road less traveled is practically the epitome of leisure. Now I just want to explore. I used to joyride like that in Kansas City a lot. Heck, even living back home, I used to do that for a getaway.

Unfortunately, I do have things to take care of. And given the price of gas and my already tight budget, I can’t allow a couple hours of exploration. But the road of discovery lures me…

Speaking of discovery, Schlotzky’s is awesome. Sandwiches… pizza… and cinnamon rolls?! Why didn’t I know about this sooner?! If they had a cozy coffee shop attached to it, I would just never leave. I guess Panera is great for all these reasons, but it’s still not the “cozy café” atmosphere I’m talking about. And Panera doesn’t have pizza. Maybe I should just design my own café. I would be awesome. Uh… I mean it. It. It would be awesome. Right.

Anyway, there’s something to be said in all this. Some testament to how precious leisure time really is anymore. I mean, something as simple as going to Scooter’s is so rare that, immediately after going, I want to go back the very next day just because I have the time and need to seize the rare opportunity? Because once was great, but only whetted my appetite? I think I must be starved for the freedom of a wide open day, because the lure is so strong. Night shift really sucks in a lot of ways.

So today is a repeat of yesterday in that I am at Scooter’s Coffeehouse and intending to eat at Schlotzky’s later. Other than that, the parallels shared are decidedly darker. I’m not going to pour out my thoughts on those matters, however; I’m going to keep the filter on and keep this post limited to the refreshing appeal of exploring, discovering, joyriding, and Final Fantasy VIII. Maybe next post. Basically, I have to burn down Bowling Green. But later.

Schlotzky’s. Funny name. Serious sandwich.
